Gap Adventures, the leader in small group Adventure Travel and voted the #1 “Do-It-All” Tour Operator on Earth by National Geographic Adventure Magazine is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Operations Manager, Ecuador to support and be a key member of the Gap Adventures Operations team.

Reporting to the General Manager of Ecuador and Galapagos, the Operations Manager, Ecuador will be responsible for overall customer satisfaction and safety, cost management, tour leader management, and Gap Adventures branding integrity on tour. This role is responsible for handling the day-to-day operations in Ecuador and the Galapagos, as well as overseeing tours, leaders and passengers passing through the region accountable to the Quito office.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all aspects of daily operations in the Quito office
  • Primary supervisor of Quito local office staff, and tour leaders reporting to the Quito office
  • Maintain, develop and nurture operator and hotel relationships
  • Monitor tour leader and passenger trip evaluations and feedback, using this information to improve our product and customer experience
  • Ensure that all trip budgets and costs are maintained in conjunction and communication with the Toronto office
  • Monitor and maintain passenger documentation in accordance to current needs (passenger welcome letters, forms and documents, trip details)
  • Be an ambassador for the Gap Adventures brand, ensuring guidelines are followed and the logo and brand are properly executed and represented at all touch points
  • Manage performance reviews of tour leaders and outsourced operators
  • Maintain a competitive product analysis database
  • Coordinate research and development of new product in the region
  • Lead role in Critical Incident Management (CIM) in the field and manage local emergency procedures
  • Responsible for ensuring customer safety on tours
  • Manage and motivate a remote team

Requirements:

  • Legally eligible to work within Ecuador (ie. Ecuadorian or foreigner with visa)
  • 2+ years experience in the travel industry
  • Superior knowledge of the Ecuador and Galapagos tourism market and boat operations
  • Familiarity with Gap Adventures products
  • Advanced oral and written skills in both English and Spanish
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Superior Attention to detail
  • Advanced computer and strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Office administration experience, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Experience in recruiting, training and scheduling
  • Prioritization skills for competing deadlines and schedules
  • Crisis management experience with focus on safety issues
  • Demonstrated ability to manage/lead day-to-day operations whilst achieving operational excellence
  • Cost management and operator/hotel contracting experience
  • Driven and motivated by a fast-paced environment and have a willingness to learn and be challenged by continual professional development
